Building upon the success of the 1943 All Pacific Recreation Fund game between the Service All-Stars and the Pacific Coast League’s Los Angeles Angels and Hollywood Stars, actor/comedian Joe. E. Brown scheduled another fundraiser game between the two squads. The rosters featured many of the same faces with the Service Team All-Stars roster seeing the loss of Joe DiMaggio and Johnny Pesky along with a few other key players. The formula was the same as the previous year’s game regarding the rotation of the two Coast League squads at the game’s mid-point. The game was played at Gilmore Field in Los Angeles (home of the Angels) and raised more than $71,000 (see: Service All-Stars Raising Funds on the Diamond for their Comrades in the Trenches), outperforming the 1943 game.
