Well over a month into the 1944 season, the Bluejackets were on a 17-game win streak heading into this late June game against the All-Stars in Grand Rapids. On a combined effort by Virgil Trucks and Lynn “Schoolboy” Rowe, Great Lakes handed the Western Michigan All Stars a 15-run shut-out. Despite being dominated by two star pitchers recently from the major leagues, the All-Stars managed 10 hits against Trucks and Rowe. Mickey Cochrane’s Bluejackets left Grand Rapids with their (now 18-game) win streak very much in tact.
