Station Baseball Practice
Inclimate weather kept practice indoors pushing the team to workout in the station’s gymnasium.
“With the seasob officially opening for Sampson early May, the team is working out indoors. As soon as the weather permits, they will take to outdoor batting practice.”
Other Sampson Naval Training Center activities on the docket include the unit “smokers” boxing competition with specific units liested. The ship’s company (sailor’s permanently assigned to Sampson) bowling league schedule and regimental indoor track meets fill out the balance of the broadside’s promotions.
The broadside promoted track meets including a three-man Sampson team that would compete in the 1944 Boston Marathon.
