Scheduled as a best-of-seven series, the Navy had already swept the Army, winning four straight. With over-capacity crowds of GIs attending each game, military leadership made the decision to continue the series despite the Navy’s dominance. After winning every game, the contest returned to Furlong Field for the Army to have one last shot to give the soldiers in the stands something to cheer about (see Wartime Baseball on Paper: Servicemen’s World Series Programs and Scorecards).
