Two days after trouncing Flint’s Recreation All-Stars and carrying a 33-game win-streak into Dearborn, Michigan’s Rotunda Field to face the Ford All-Stars. While Lt. Cmdr. Gordon “Mickey” Cochrane‘s Navy squad featured a mix of major and minor leaguers, the “Blue Oval” squad, led by Hall of Famer Walter “Rabbit” Maranville and coached by Wally Pipp, proved to be a formidable foe. Ford’s shortstop Gene Malish and pitcher Bert Fodor were the keys to ending the Great Lakes win streak with a 2-1 victory.

Fodor held the Navy bats to just three singles and a lone extra-base hit with Mizell “Whitey” Platt‘s double. Bob Klinger surrendered six of the Ford-men’s seven hits over 5-2/3 inning before Cochrane spelled him with Schoolboy Rowe to finish the game. Ford led the game from the bottom of the first frame until Navy plated the tying run in the top of the ninth. In the home-half of the last frame, Malish walked-off the victory with a solo shot off of Rowe.
