Station Baseball Practice

Front and center at the top of the page, this broadside advertises the ball team’s initial practice and tryouts for the 1944 season. Early April in upstate New York is still quite cold which will impact how the coaching staff will manage the workouts.

Three big league pitchers find the spacious drill halls of the Sampson Naval Training Station ideal for working out the winter kinks. Other Sampson Naval Training Center activities on the docket include the unit “smokers” boxing competition with specific units liested. The ship’s company (sailor’s permanently assigned to Sampson) bowling league schedule and regimental indoor track meets fill out the balance of the broadside’s promotions.
