Front and back covers of the 1938 Army – Navy Baseball Game held at Lawrence Field, Annapolis, Maryland (Chevrons and Diamonds Collection)

Eleven years after the establishment of the Army-Navy football game commenced, the two service academies launched their baseball rivalry in 1901 with a West Point 4-3 victory over the Midshipman. The Cadets roster included a second year player, Douglas MacArthur, who would rise to prominence on the battlefield during his long Army career. In 1938 with the winds of war fiercely blowing abroad, the Annapolis and West Point men gathered for their traditional meeting. While the game was a 6-1 rout for the Navy, the real story of these teams was yet to be written (see: More Than Just a Game).
