
Serving as a seaplane tender in 1927, the USS Wright (AV-1) fielded baseball teams that throughout the 1920s and ’30s were vying for or winning fleet championships. In 1930 and 31, the Wright secured consecutive overall fleet titles. In 1927, the club from the battleship USS California (BB-44), captured the Battle Fleet Championship and the only club standing in their way for the Fleet title was the USS Wright club.

In the best of three series, the California club was the home team and played host to the Scouting Fleet champs from the USS Wright. Wright struck first in the opening game, securing a 4-1 victory over California. However, the Battle Fleet champs bounced back with a 7-1 rout of the Scouting champs. In the final game, Wright struck first with run in the third inning but was matched by California in the bottom half. In the fifth frame, Wright tallied twice more in the sixth and chalked four more runs in the seventh to take a 7-1 lead. California could only answer with one run in the bottom of the seventh. The game was out of hand for California who surrendered two more in the ninth handing the Wright a 7-2 victory and with it, the 1927 Fleet Baseball Championship.

This programs is a single, 8-1/2 x 11 inch sheet of bi-folded card stock, printed with monochrome black ink. Two grids are printed at the bottom of the interior; one on each page. Rosters of both teams as well as semi-final game results for series leading up to the Fleet Championship games appear above the respective team rosters. The scorecard is in good condition with the exception of a a 1 x 1/4-inch cutout section in the center of the card.
